METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR THE DIRECT REDUCTION OF IRON

A process for producing reformed gas for use in the direct reduction of metal oxides comprising contacting a feeder gas at reformation temperature with DRI material which acts as a catalyst. The method for the direct reduction of metal oxides to metallized iron comprises positioning DRI material in a reduction reactor below the metal oxide material to be reduced and thereafter feeding natural gas in the presence of oxygen to the DRI material. An apparatus is provided for carrying out the direct reduction process.
