PURPOSE:To obtain a piezoelectric ceramic having improved fracture toughness and mechanical properties by adding ZrO2 fiber to a piezoelectric material composed of a lead titanate zirconate and sintering the mixture. CONSTITUTION:A piezoelectric material composed of a lead titanate zirconate is incorporated with 0.5-9.5vol.% of ZrO2 fiber having crystal particle diameter of 0.1mum, a fiber diameter of 5mum and axial length of 0.5-3mm. It can be produced e.g. by preparing PbO, ZrO2, TiO2 and SrCO3 as starting raw materials, weighing the powdery raw materials at ratios to satisfy the chemical formula (Pb0.92Sr0.08)(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3, adding 0.2wt.% of Cr2O3 to the mixture, mixing and crushing the powder using water as a medium to obtain a slurry, drying the slurry, calcining at 950 deg.C, crushing in dry state to obtain calcined powder, separately dispersing 0-20vol.% (based on the calcined powder) of monoclinic ZrO2 fibers in distilled water under application of ultrasonic wave, adding the calcined powder together with a dispersing agent and a binder to the fiber dispersion, mixing with a ball mill, adjusting pH to 10 with ammonia, defoaming under reduced pressure, forming the defoamed mixture and finally sintering the formed product. |
