An injector comprising a tubular body (1), a drug container having a tubular wall (2), a plunger (3), a needle (5) and a plunger rod (4), and two springs (7, 10). The first spring (7) is compressed in engagement with a portion of the inner surface of the body (1) as well as a part (6) joined to the plunger rod (4) and biases the needle (5) towards its extended position. The second spring (10) acts in the opposite direction to the first spring (7) and is compressed in engagement with a portion of the inner surface of the injector body as well as a ring (8). The second spring (10) exerts a greater force than the first spring (7). A slidable ring (8) for moving the drug container in the retraction direction of the needle (5) may be locked by a movable abutment (16). Said part (6) engages the movable abutment (16) to release the second spring (10) and cause retraction of the needle.
