PURPOSE: To use an NLI(nonlinear interactive) laser or amplifier to perform efficient optical communication. CONSTITUTION: An optical element, namely, an optical fiber NLI amplifier or laser 10 is used. This device is provided with an optical waveguide (silica optical fiber 13) having a certain length and a means which introduced pump radiation 12 of a wavelengthλp into this optical waveguide. The optical element used here radiates a wave of a wavelengthλs from the optical waveguide. They satisfyλs≠λp , especially,λs >λp . A reflection means is arranged apart from the optical element, and an optical 'cavity' for electromagnetic radiation of a prescribed wavelength is prescribed by this means, and this cavity includes at least a part of the optical waveguide. |
