Soya oil is hydrogenated at 295 DEG F. in the presence of a Ni, ZrO2, tkieselguhr catalyst until the iodine value of the oil is reduced to about 80. Similar information on the reduction of cottonseed oil is disclosed. CO is reduced to CH4 at 750 DEG F. in the presence of hydrogen and a Co, ZrO2 catalyst (containing Ni impurity). U.S.A. Specification 2,564,331 is referred to.ALSO:A Co or Ni hydrogenation catalyst is made by forming an aqueous solution of Ni(NH3)#cCO3 or Co(NH3)#cCO3 where #c = 2-6 and ammonium zirconyl carbonate such that the Zr content = 2-10% and the Ni or Co content = 0,1-5%, altering the relative concentrations of NH3 and CO2 sufficient to precipitate basic carbonates of the metals present, removing the precipitates and reducing, e.g. in hydrogen at 500-1100 DEG F. If desired the catalyst may be supported on a carrier, e.g. diatomaceous earth, Kieselguhr or pumice. U.S.A. Specification 2,564,331 is referred to. |
