SELF-CONTAINED GASIFICATION PROCESS

A self-contained gasification process is provided for producing a clean gas from a carbonaceous feedstock, such as a hazardous waste-derived feedstock. The process involves gasifying a carbonaceous feedstock in a gasifier (2) maintained at a temperature of from about 1650 DEG F and a pressure lower than atmospheric pressure, while maintaining an excess of carbon in the gasifier, to produce a gas stream, then quenching and scrubbing the gas stream (4, 6, 8) to provide a clean gas. No effluent gases are released into the environment. An economic and environmentally safe process (32) for producing commercially useful products from the clean gas is also provided.
