The windscreen washer system on a vehicle has a mechanical control device (7,8,9,12,13) driven by the flow of the washer fluid for controlling the movement of the spray nozzle (15). The control device so controls the spray nozzle that the emerging spray of washer fluid is guided in a defined alternating movement across at least part of the width of the windscreen (1). The mechanical control has a bladed wheel (7) projecting into the flow path of the washer fluid which imparts an alternating movement to the movably mounted spray nozzle via a crank (8,9) and a lever linkage (12,13,14).
