In a residual pressure blocking device for a pressure cooker, especially one in which the pan and lid can be locked together by a locking device, with a sealing diaphragm (18) fitted in the pan or lid which transfers the pressure outwards from the inside of the pressure cooker, and a locking component (30) which is directly or indirectly connected to the diaphragm and engages with the locking device at a predetermined pressure inside the pressure cooker and prevents unlocking, the diaphragm (18) acting on the locking component (30) acts directly on a pressure indicating pushrod (20) which indicates the work pressure inside the pressure cooker against the force of a return spring (24), in which the locking component has a counter-bearing surface (36) against which the unprestressed spring lies and thus the spring exerts a return force only when the locking component has attained its engaged position in the locking button.
