The grinding belt (SF) works on the workpiece while it turns and oscillates in the direction of the rotating axis. The grinding belt has a ferromagnetic layer in its support material (2) which allows for the belt to fix itself to the exact shape of the work piece. The belt can be guided in and out of a magazine (M) by magnetic guidance (3). The support layer is made of a metal foil containing iron, nickel, cobalt or other ferromagnetic foil. Alternatively, it may be a plastics-ferromagnetic powder mixture.
