An assembly for storing and paying out an elongate element, comprises (a) a winding-up package 19 consisting of a winding-up core 3 supporting a coil 2 of the elongate element 1, of a box 4 containing the winding-up core 3 together with the coil 2, this box being arranged to support the core 3 as it rotates, an opening 6 being made in the wall of the box 4 for the passage of a free end 1a of the elongate element, (b) an unwinding device 20 consisting of a frame 21 with brackets 31 arranged to receive and to abut the front face of the winding-up package 19, and a spindle 23 to support an unwinding core 22 onto which the element 1 is wound. Graduations 12 on the liner facilitate cutting off of a desired length. <IMAGE>
