A foldable board (1) for ironing the full length of a pair of trousers or a skirt to achieve thorough ironing of the highest quality. The board (1) is long and narrow and its underside is attached at one end to a combination of a support (2) and a metal base plate (7) for supporting the board (1), via at least two hinged brackets (4..) closely spaced beneath one end of the board (1), and forming a variable parallelogram having portions for locking the brackets (4..) in the raised position, said brackets having complementary shapes enabling them to fit inside one another in the flat collapsed position. The ironing board is set up by shifting the board (1) from right to left so that the first bracket (4/1) engages a stop (6) or snaps into members (8) specially provided in the stop (6) at the left-hand end of the base plate (7).
