Determn of condition of skin tissue by image analysis

Non-invasive assessment of the condition of skin tissue and the reverse side of skin cells comprises (1) taking a skin tissue sample by applying a microscope slide covered with an adhesive layer; (2) viewing the carrier (with adhered cells) in emitted light on the reverse side and (3) evaluating the obtd. image. Also new is an appts. for this process. Sample removal is pref. repeated, at the same site, to recover samples of differing skin thicknesses. Samples are treated, before examination, with labelled antibodies, or selective stains. Examination is effected in a fluorescence emission microscope, opt. operated with UV light. Evaluation involves determining the length or breadth ratio, surface area ratio, brightness contrast ratio and/or colour deviation ratio of the sample cells to their interstices (i.e. tissue between the cells), to predetermined reference values and/or to the interstices of these reference values.
