Salts of pyromellitic acide, a process for their preparation, and their use.

New salts of pyromellitic acid (PMA) are claimed (I), in which the amine component has the formula (A) or (B); R1-R3 = 1-20C aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbyl, opt. with one or more of the chain CH2 gps. replaced by O, NR4 (with R4 = 1-6C alkyl) or -CHOH- and/or opt. with one or more terminal Me gps. replaced by 1-6C dialkyl-amino; R1 and R2 can also form a ring in which one CH2 can be replaced by O or NR4, and R1 = R2 = R3 = CH2CH2- can be linked via a common N atom; n = 3-11. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of (I), by reacting 1 mole PMA with 0.5-2 moles amine (A) or (B) in water or ethanol at 50-100 deg.C, and then separating the prod. from the solvent.
