A non-linear load (4) is connected to the electrical power mains network using an ideal mains source (1) and a network impedance (2). Compensation for feedback load effects onto the mains is provided by a circuit (3) that responds to voltage and current sensors (7,8) that are coupled to a control stage (10). A correcting signal is produced (13) and is applied to the power stage and this produces a correcting voltage (Vc(t)). The compensation corrects for harmonic effects and for the power factor changes.
