The invention relates to a luggage carrier for vehicles. Bulky goods are often transported on vehicles by means of luggage carriers fastened to the outsides of the said vehicles. The luggage carriers must be mounted when required and carried at all times. The object of the invention is to produce a luggage carrier which can be fastened to the vehicle and can be carried in a non-intrusive manner when it is not in use. It is also to be made quickly available when required without complicated assembly work. The object is achieved in that the luggage carrier is fastened to the rear (1) of the vehicle and can be displaced from a use position projecting over the rear (1) of the vehicle into a rest position which no longer projects over the back end of the vehicle.
