New ureas and processes for their production

Novel sulphonyl ureas of the formula and their salts with inorganic or organic bases, wherein R1 is a tricyclo [4.3.1.13,8] undec-3-yl radical and R2 is hydrogen, halogen, an alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxy group of up to 3 carbon atoms, a methylthio, acetyl or amino group, or together with the phenyl radical forms a 5,6,7,8tetrahydronaphthyl radical, are made by reacting tricyclo-[4.3.1.13,8] undecane-3-amine with a benzenesulphonyl isocyanate which may bear a substituent R2 (other than amino) or a nitro group, or with a reactive functional derivative of an N-arylsulphonyl-carbamic acid which may bear a substituent R2 or a nitro, alkanoylamino or alkoxycarbonylamino substituent, and if necessary reducing or hydrolysing the initial product and, if desired converting to a salt with an organic or inorganic base. Pharmaceutical preparations having hypoglycaemic activity comprise the above sulphonyl ureas and a carrier, preferably in a form adapted to oral administration such as tablets or dragees.
