PURPOSE:To realize automatic printing, in which the size and set position of recording paper are matched, by a method wherein a printer controlling means, by which sentences, figures and the like set by a format setting means are printed at the predetermined position detected by a paper size recognizing means of recording paper, is equipped. CONSTITUTION:When a paper 6 is set, a carriage is moved from left to right so as to scan the paper 9 once. The platen of a printer part acts as a reflector 8, the light reflected from which is received at all times by the light receiving part 6 of a sensor part 7 provided at the side of the carriage and the reflectance of which changes at the site that the paper 9 is present. By the change just mentioned above, a switch is turned ON, resulting in detecting the left edge of the paper 9. During further movement of the carriage, the reflectance changes at the right edge of the paper 9, resulting in turning OFF the switch so as to detect the right edge of the paper 9. By turning ON/OFF of the switch, the left and right edges of the paper and the breadth of the paper 9 is found out, resulting in recognizing the size of the paper. Further, by the distance between the positions of the left and right edges of the paper 9 and the home position of the carriage, the position of the paper 9 on the carriage is recognized. Furthermore, a controlling part sets the format of an edited plane so as to match to the size of the paper. |
