PURPOSE:To release a brake in the stopping and holding condition with constantly optimum timing irrespective of the wear condition of a clutch. CONSTITUTION:A device for stopping and holding a vehicle is provided with a load detecting sensor 2 to detect the load of the engine, a stroke sensor 3 to detect the operation stroke of a non-automatic clutch 1, a memory part 4 to store the output signal of the stroke sensor 3 at the connecting point of the non-automatic clutch 1, and a brake release part 5 to release the brake fluid pressure based on the signal from the stroke sensor 3.
