PURPOSE:To prevent dust such as chads, etc., from being dragged into a space between a rack and a pinion at the time of the running of a carriage by providing a protector which covers the pinion in a state close to the rack and moves together with the carriage. CONSTITUTION:A protector 21 covers a pinion 20, leaving distances from a rack 16 and the pinion 20, and is fixed to a bottom face 17a of a cover 17 for a spacing motor. The protector 21 is provided so as to be close to the rack 16 to the extent wherein one end 21a and the other end 21b of the protector 21 do not impinge against the rack 16 at the time of the running of a carriage. In the case where sprocket holes 2a of a sprocket sheet 2 are not completely opened, chads 22 of the holes 2a come off to stick to the rack 16 when the holes 2 are caught by pins 3a of pull tractors 3. However, at the time of the running of the carriage, one end 21a and the other end 21b of the protector 21 scrape off the chads 22 while moving in the direction shown by the arrow B or B', respectively. Furthermore, fine dust and fine waste paper in a moving space, which are stuck to the rack 16, are also scraped off simultaneously. |
