PHENOL RESIN MODIFIED WITH ROSIN AND PRINTING INK USING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To obtain a phenol resin modified with a rosin, having improved solubility in a nonaromatic petroleum-based solvent and to provide a printing ink using the resin as a vehicle component for printing. CONSTITUTION:This phenol resin modified with a rosin is a resol type phenol.aldehyde precondensate obtained by reacting a rosin (a) with a precondensate (b) prepared by reacting a phenol containing a 10C long-chain alkyl group with an aldehyde in an alkali range and a polyhydric alcohol (c) and/or optionally a polyfunctional carboxylic acid (d), or a novolak.resol type phenol.aldehyde precondensate in which the precondensate (b) is obtained by two-stage reaction of an acidic range and an alkali range. A printing ink is obtained by using the resin as a vehicle component.
