PURPOSE:To detect the feature amount accurately and stably by subjecting a predetermined region, not coming into contact with an object to be extracted, to masking and labeling in order to extract the object and then extracting the feature amount of image data based on the extracted object. CONSTITUTION:The image of the face part of a driver 12 is picked up by means of a TV camera 11 and the image data is passed through an A/D converted 13 before being stored in an image memory 14. A circuit 15 extracts the features of the image data thus stored. Binarization is carried out at first and the region not contacting the face is subjected to masking and labeling thus setting the width of face. The eye part is then extracted by masking and labeling and the central position thereof is set. Upper and lower positions of eye are detected in order to determine the extent of opening of eye and the tracking conditions of eye are confirmed. A decision is then made whether the eye is opened or closed and a circuit 16 determines the awareness based on the decision results. When the awareness is low, an alarm is delivered from an alarm unit 17. |
