The stainless steel comprises (by wt.) less than 0.12% C, less than 0.12% Si, less than 5% Mn, 7.5-13% Ni, 17-22% Cr, less than 2% Mo, 0.02-0.15% Bi, 0.002-0.05% B, 0.030-0.070% N, 0.0010-0.0050% Ca and balance Fe with B/Bi of 0.06-0.15. The method comprises hot-rolling or hot-forging ingot or continuous cast iron at 950-1150 deg.C, and solution heat treating at 1030-1080 deg.C. The stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance, mechinability and hot workablity.
