[Also in Division B5] An insulating foam cover is continuously applied in situ to a rod, tube or other workpiece 15 as it advances axially through and at the same velocity as a cylindrical mould comprising an endless belt 6, edges 9, 10 of which overlap in a zone 12 to form the mould prior to entering the outwardly flared entry 2 of a stationary hollow cylindrical former 1. As the belt leaves the flared exit 3 of the former 1 it opens out to its full width prior to returning, rollers 7, 8 externally of the former 1 to the entry 2. The belt is 45-250 mm. wide and moves at 8-10 metres per min., one of the rollers being driven at 13 r.p.m. by a 1À5 h.p. electric motor (not shown) operating through a timing gear (not shown). Two belts may be used, each forming a semi-cylinder in the former 1, Fig. 3 (not shown). In both embodiments, the former 1 comprises sections clamped at 16, 17, 18 to facilitate cleaning of the belt 6.</p> |
