PURPOSE:To display a deformer chart without increasing the volume of data by deciding the road type of road data, enlarging the width to be displayed for superhighway and altering the display color to the background color for other roads. CONSTITUTION:When the scale of display map is selected, design and map display level are selected and then a unit corresponding to the vehicle position is selected. A map display data is read out from a CDROM 7 followed by reading out of a road network data. These data are employed, along with the current position data of vehicle obtained from a CPU 10, in the determination of vehicle position, orientation and road type. A decision is made whether the vehicle position is on a superhighway based on the road type and when the vehicle position is on a superhighway, the superhighway is displayed while enlarging the width thereof by a factor of n (positive integer) using the road data in the road network data. Subsequently, roads other than superhighway are described with the background color. This constitution displays a deforme chart without requiring additional data therefor. |
