Compositions to inhibit applicable activity by micro organisms, especially to processes for the manufacture of paints, glues, adhesives, detergents, paper and leathers and to the treatment of cooling circuits and industrial water in general. The compositions comprise principles which are active against microorganisms, solvents, surfactants and optionally corrosion inhibitors. It is characterized in that the principle which is active against micro- organisms comprises hexahalo dimethyl sulphone of general formula I (where X represents either chlorine or bromine), other principles active against micro-organisms present are salts of organic short chain acids with fatty amines, or alkylene, alkenylene or arylene rhodanides, as solvents water, short straight-chained alcohols, glycols, aliphatic solvents and their combinations, as surfactant ethoxylated alkyl phenols or their mixtures with alkyl aryl sulphonic acid salts, as corrosion inhibitors mixtures of oxyethylenated fatty amines. Used as biocides in different manufacturing processes and for the treatment of industrial water. <IMAGE>
