In a process for the production of b -carotene the + and - forms of Blakeslea trispora (NRRL 2456 and 2457) are cultured aerobically in a nutrient medium containing 2,6,6-tri-methyl-1-acetyl cyclohexene. The medium also may contain b -ionone, thiamine, an antioxidant and an activator as disclosed in Specification 1,000,409. Examples are given. |
