PURPOSE:To suppress a decrease in a nutrient such as vitamin C, etc., and to improve preservability of fruit and vegetables by arranging a filter-shaped article which carries a catalyst mixed with noble metal such as gold, etc., in an oxide of a transition metal element in a storage vessel. CONSTITUTION:Powder in which gold or gold-plated fine metal particles acre mixed with manganese compound or mixture of the compound with iron oxide, copper oxide is spread in a filterlike polyester nonwoven fabric as a catalyst to be used for oxidation or dehydrogenating reaction to provide an ethylene removing filter 16. When this catalyst is brought into contact with the air in a storage chamber 4, ethylene harmful for preservation of fruit and vegetables and ethyl alcohol are chemically changed to a carbon dioxide. As a result, gas concentration of the ethylene, etc., can be remarkably reduced, and an atmosphere adapted for preserving the fruit and vegetables can be held by a decrease in an oxygen concentration and an increase in a carbon dioxide concentration. |
