PURPOSE:To fix and shorten a capstan phase synchronous lead-in time at the time of starting a capstan by making a phase difference between a phase reference signal and a regenerative control signal the phase reference data. CONSTITUTION:The phase relation data between the phase reference signal and the regenerative CTL signal uniquely decided at the time of starting the tape are stored in a storage circuit 21 at every reference signal after the capstan is started as the phase reference data at the time of starting. At the time reading out the data, the data are inputted to one side of a comparison circuit 23 by the phase reference signal inputted from a generation circuit 20 based on a phase coincidence detection signal from a detection circuit 22. A phase error signal is supplied from the comparison circuit 17 to the other input of the circuit 23. The circuit 23 sends the comparison result of respective input signals to a switch circuit 18 as the phase error signal. Thus, a capstan motor 3 is controlled by the phase error signal from the circuit 23 and a speed control signal from the comparison circuit 8 until being speed locked.
