PURPOSE: To form a system for transmitting the stored program of movie or music through the distribution network(DN) of cable television or the like to a client. CONSTITUTION: Concerning this system, the program is compressed and stored in a program library(PL) 102. When a request to the program is received, a request processor(RP) 101 transmits a control message(CM) 104, reads a data block(DB) having the requested program out of the PL 102 and stores it in a DRAM inside a server. The server transmits the program from the DRAM through a distribution system to the client as series of digital packets. The transmission of program is managed by another command word(CW). The client can operate such as fast forward by transmitting the CM for changing a pointer in the CW. In order to simultaneously transmit audio and/or video overlay, the CW is divided into groups and linked for transmitting a program sequence. Interfaces to the RP 101, PL 102 and DN can be arranged at different positions. |
