PURPOSE:To record/reproduce an analog broad band video signal and a digital compression signal to/from the same recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A modulated analog broad band video signal or a digital compression signal whose band is made narrow are recorded onto an adjacent video track on a magnetic tape 110 by magnetic heads 101a, 101b, and 102a, 102b on a magnetic tape 110. A frequency-multiplexed audio signal is recorded on an audio track adjacent to the video track on the magnetic tape 110 by magnetic heads 103a, 103b, and a discrimination circuit 64 uses a reproduction signal from the audio track to discriminate whether the signal recorded on the video track is an analog signal or a digital signal. Thus, the recording/ reproduction of the digital compression signal is attained and the discrimination of the analog/digital signal is easily realized. |
