PURPOSE: To provide a simple means for calculating the length of branch with irreducibly minimum bits without approximation, to attain the memoryless configuration of viterbi decoder and to provide a receiver and a decoder for a transmission system. CONSTITUTION: The decoder designed so as to be used for the receiver in the transmission system is composed of a module for calculating a distance between each reception point and the closest point in each subset of two-dimensional arrangement under using in addition to the other elements. A distance μ to be used is a relative distance applied by an equality. In this equality, an index (i) shows a lateral axis i=x or longitudinal axis i=y of quantity indicating this index, |Δi | expresses the size of gap between two points in the arrangement, Ei is the error of received point away from the closest point in the two-dimensional arrangement, and sgn shows a code function. |
