<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the calculation quantity required for detecting a motion vector and to provided the motion vector detecting method with high predict precision. CONSTITUTION:In the motion vector detection method, a motion vector is detected for each thinned block and interpolation is applied to the detected motion vector to provide the motion vector to a block from which no motion vector is detected and a motion vector is detected for each block in the final detection of the motion vector. Since motion compensation with high predictive precision can be applied, a generated code quantity due to a predicted error is very small, the coding efficiency is improved. Thus, a natural image is sent in real time without causing a delay due to coding even in the case of a low transmission rate such as that of a video telephone set by having only to add a block thinning means and an interpolation means to an existing coder.</p> |
