<p>PURPOSE:To lay a submarine cable easily in a short time by connecting a floating cable, having specific gravity lower than 1, to the intermediate part of a catenary submarine cable extending between the bottom of sea and a floating base. CONSTITUTION:A catenary cable line 11 extends from a semi-submersible floating structure 12 on the surface of sea water toward an anchor 13 on the sea bottom. The submarine cable line 11 is connected, at an intermediate part 14a of a submarine cable 14, with a floating cable 15 having specific gravity lower than 1 through joints 16. Consequently, the floating cable 15 floats by buoyancy after the cable is laid and the submarine cable line 11 is held in S-shape. This method facilitates installation of submarine cable line.</p> |
