PURPOSE:To enable AD driving by ideal symmetrical waveforms by impressing specific voltages to picture elements in light emission and non-light emission display. CONSTITUTION:The writing driving and modulation voltages are impressed from switching circuits 150, 160, 170 to prescribed scanning and data electrodes Yj, Xj in scanning side driving circuits 120, 130 and data side driving circuit 140. A display panel 110 has a relation: Vw<light emission threshold value voltage Vth<Vw+Vm. Respectively 0 and Vm are impressed at the time of P and N driving as the corresponding modulation voltages at the time of the light emission display and respective Vm and 0V are impressed at the time of P and N driving and respectively Vw+Vm, -Vm are impressed at the time of P and N driving as writing voltages at the time of non-light emission display. The discharge of the writing voltage impressed to the scanning side is executed toward +1/2Vm. The potentials of all the data electrodes are maintained at +1/2Vm by simultaneously turning on the pull-up switching elements on the data side after the end of driving of the one line.
