The mechanism, which automatically holds the door (4) open as soon as it has been opened, consists of a flexible stop (2) which cannot be bent and which will resist the shock caused by a door being closed violently. This is fixed to the end of a support which consists of two rigid arms (1, 6) which are joined like a pair of callipers with a spring (7) which joins the arm (6) supporting the stop to the other arm or the wall. The support may be made of a flexible material, or alternatively it may take the form of a rigid arm with a spring loaded hinge. As the door is opened the support enables the stop to move with it, it then pulls the stop back against the rebate or the edge of the door casing (5). The support can be attached to the wall (3) on the side that the door opens, a few centimetres from the casing.
