In a compression system which incorporates a rotary helical screw compressor a nonworking liquid oil is atomized through nozzles (126, 128) suspended in the suction gas flow. The oil stream to be degassed may first be degassed at compressor discharge pressure by heating within a pressure vessel (134). The compressor rotors can be lubricated and sealed through a hollow cavity through which nonworking liquid oil is injected into channels of constant cross section (206) along the edges of the rotors, alternatively the rotors could be sealed and lubricated by nonworking liquid oil injected through channels (220) in the compressor casing.
