1,110,829. Cold separation of gas mixtures. PETROCARBON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 8 Nov., 1966 [29 Nov., 1965], No. 50546/65. Heading F4P. In separating low boiling impurities such as oxygen, nitrogen, methane and ethane from compressed carbon-dioxide by rectification in a column 18 having boiling coils 17, 30 and a reflux condenser 36, the latter is cooled by an external refrigerant forced by a compressor 24 through a water cooler 26, an expansion valve 31 and the condenser 36 back to the compressor 24, and coils 17, 30 are warmed respectively by feed compressed carbon-dioxide and by a portion of refrigerant leaving compressor 24 and an expansion valve 28; the 20 cooled refrigerant then being expanded at a valve 32 and added to the refrigerant flow into condenser 36. Pure product liquid carbondioxide is withdrawn from the column through a line 22 whilst gaseous effluent withdrawn through a line 23 is first used to cool feed gas in an exchanger 15 and then a portion is heated at 12 and used to purge alternating watervapour absorbers 11.
|
