To prepare solids in sewage, sand, rubbish and the like, the solids in the fluid are sepd. from organic matter by a fixed and structured eddy action to wash them out, while the organic matter passes out with the fluid. The recovered solids are dumped, incinerated or given a low-moisture heat treatment. Pref. the eddy and washing action on the solids is applied to the soiled water before they are removed, such as in a gulley, or in a container after they have been lifted from the soiled water. The solids, including those provided by external sources such as rubbish, are mixed with a washing fluid before the eddy action, such as pretreated sewage or waste water. The mixt. of liq. and solids can be eddied repeatedly. The eddy action is applied intermittently as charges are fed to the eddy zone. The eddy action can be applied to a mixt. of gas/fluid or to a gas, using a rapid-rotation motor-driven eddy wheel. ADVANTAGE - The technique gives an improved sepn. of solids from sewage and other liq. waste matter, for safe and simple disposal.
