METHOD AND DEVICE FOR LOCATING A MOBILE OBJECT IN AN ENVIRONMENT

The method for locating a mobile object (1) in an environment comprises installing in the environment a plurality of individually coded beacons (4) so that, at any time, at the most only one beacon is in the field of observation (6) of the mobile object; sending a beacon lighting signal (SA) from the mobile object to the environment in order to initiate the emission of the identification code (CI) of the beacon (4) situated in the field of observation of the mobile object; acquiring an instantaneous image of said beacon after reception of its identification code by the mobile object; and comparing the instantaneous image of the beacon with the stored coordinates of the latter in the mobile object in order to determine the position and orientation of the mobile object in the environment. Application: absolute location of driver-free vehicles in a workshop for the storage of goods.
