The driving rod (1) intended for anchoring a dowel (7) with sleeve (12) and expanding element (14) possesses a supporting shoulder (5) which runs up against the end face (17) of the sleeve (12) when the expanded position of the expanding element (14), ensuring a high anchoring value, is attained. To render the attaining of the expanded position of the expanding element (14) perceptible, the face of the supporting shoulder (5) has projections (4) protruding from it in the driving direction, which create marks in the form of impressions in the end face (17) of the sleeve (12) before the supporting shoulder (5) runs up against it.
