Heading A6M An exercising machine comprises a base 11, an upright support 6, a top 7, and a pair of footrests 21 pivoted about an axle so that they can move independently from right to left and back, the return being helped by a spring 38. Attached to the top 7 are handgrips 47 on bars 48 which can be adjusted to a suitable position and are resiliently biased to the furthest closed position by springs 52. The operator sits on a chair to the right of the apparatus and places his feet on the footrest 21, so that his feet are against end 24, and the ankles and knees are supported by cushions 26 and 28 respectively. The handles 47 are held to prevent the machine being moved away from the operator by pressure on the pedals. The top 49 of the apparatus serves as a table top and can be adjusted and held rigidly in position by means of rod 59 which engages with pin 63. The tension in spring 38 is adjustable by means of an externally threaded rod 41, so that the effort needed to operate the device can be varied.</p> |
