The device consists of a stay rod (2) held between two rollers (8, 10) supported by a base (18). The rollers are pushed towards each other elastically. The base (18) is fixed to the door (20) and the stay rod is designed to be joined to the upright (34) of the door by one (2a) of its ends. The stay rod has two or more notches (24, 26, 28) which fit around one of the rollers (8) to keep the door fully open or partly open. The end of the stay rod is permanently attached to a support (30) which is fixed to the upright. The joint between the stay rod and the support consists of a riveted axle (36) with a case made of metal with a self lubricating plastics coating (40) which is placed between the axle (36) and a hole (38) in the stay rod. The axle has a riveted head (42) which holds a washer (44) against a shoulder on the axle.
