A three-dimensional real space coordinate system is set up in the area where a moving object to be imaged is expected to move. This area is mapped on a two-dimensional area in accordance with the imaging method and the extent of the movement. The image processing for determining the coordinates is limited in the two-dimensional area. The coordinates of the object in the three-dimensional real space are determined from the signal generated by imaging the object. Further, it is possible to enhance the reliability of measured data, the detection accuracy, and the smooth automatic pursuit control of the image direction and extent according to the movement of the object and superposing on the image signals the imaging condition and the data which change with time due to the movement of the object. <IMAGE>
