PURPOSE:To produce a polyarylene sulfide polymer excellent in physical properties, such as toughness, with excellent reproducibility, with high output of polymer per unit volume of reactor, i.e., high productivity and with high economic efficiency in commercial production. CONSTITUTION:A process for producing a polyarylene sulfide polymer by the polycondensation of a sulfiding agent and a dihaloaromatic compound in an organic polar solvent while the azeotropically distilled water is removed out of the system, wherein the molar ratio of the solvent to the sulfiding agent is (1.0:1) to (3.5:1), the molar ratio of water to the sulfiding agent in the reaction system at the end of reaction is (0.05:1) to (0.9:1), and the molar ratio of water to the solvent in the reaction system is preferably (0.02:1) to (0.3:1). |
