<p>PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for thermosetting resins, as a curing agent for epoxy resins, as a ballasting agent for photoresist photosensitizers, etc., by condensing a phenol compound with glyoxal, concentrating the condensation product and subsequently treating the residue with a specific organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing highly pure tetrakisphenolethane comprises condensing a phenol compound with glyoxal in the presence of an acidic catalyst such as oxalic acid or phenol sulfonic acid, concentrating the condensation product solution, distilling off volatile components, and subsequently treating the residue with an organic solvent capable of dissolving low mol.wt. compounds and highly condensed products but acting on the tetrakisphenolethane as a poor solvent, such as methylethylketoneor methylisobutylketone.</p> |
