摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To reduce the thermal energy by obtaining the amount of wear of a grinding wheel from the dimensional information from an inlet side dimension detector and an outlet side dimension detector, and providing a wear amount-following controller to move the grinding wheel toward the center in the radial direction of a work according to the wear to grind and remove the surface defect of a slab in the hot condition. CONSTITUTION:When a body of revolution is rotated by a driving device 4, and a surface defect is detected by an inlet side defect detector 8i on a work W moving through a stock passage of an inner cylinder, the grinding wheel is moved by the rotation of a grinding wheel driving device in the direction of the work by the attraction of an electromagnet M by a grinding wheel position controller based on the defect information from the inlet side defect detector 8i after the period of time to be obtained from the distance between the inlet side defect detector 8i and the grinding wheel and the moving speed of the work W, and the surface of the work W is spirally ground. The grinding wheel is worn, the grinding quantity is reduced in comparison with the specified value of the grinding by the inlet side defect detector, and the dimension of the work W is increased. This is detected by an outlet side dimension detector 8o, and a wear-following controller is actuated thereby.</p>
