<p>PURPOSE: To trim a can body without rolling up by use of a trimming device having a simple structure. CONSTITUTION: A can body is orbited about a central turret axis while being rotated about the axial line R' of a cartridge spindle to trim the open end part of the cylindrical can body. The can bodies are successively mounted with vacuum onto a can body support mandrel 20 provided on the support shaft 70 of a cartridge assembly 10 mounted on a turret disc 16 at circumferentially spaced intervals. The open end part of the can body project between the outside cutting edge 40 and inside trimming edge 37 of the cartridge assembly 10. The inside trimming edge 37 is radially displaced by cam action into contact with the can body open end according to the orbiting of the cartridge assembly 10 about the turret axial line, and cooperates with the outside cutting edge 40 to generate a shearing action for trimming the open end part.</p> |
