[Also in Division A1] In an agricultural machine having a body supported on ground-engaging wheels including at least one drive-wheel, a power plant and crop handling apparatus, a first variable-speed drive is arranged between the power plant and drivewheel and a second variable-speed drive between the power plant and crop-handling apparatus, control means connecting the said first and second drive means whereby the speed of the crop handling apparatus is varied in response to adjustment of the first variable drive to change the ground speed. In a pick-up baler a drivewheel 4 is driven from the power plant driveshaft 6 by means of belts and a variable diameter pulley system 10, 12, 14, the shaft 16 of which is connected to a lever 18 which is adjustable by a manual control 34 to vary the effective diameter of the pulley system to increase or decrease the ground speed. The reel 38 is driven through belts 46, 48 by a shaft 40 itself driven by belt 50 from a shaft 52 driven from the main power plant by a belt 54. The belt 50 passes round variable-speed pulleys 56, 60, the movable portion 62 of pulley 60 being actuated by a shifter member 64 pivotally mounted on the machine body by a pin 66. One end of a cable 68 is connected to shifter member 64 and the other end to an arm 70 of control lever 18 whereby member 64 is pivoted in dependence on movement of lever 18. The cable 68 also passes round a pulley 76 attached to a lever 74, the position of which is adjusted by a handle 92 to determine the initial speed of the reel.</p> |
