PURPOSE:To produce whiskers of titanium carbide by facilities of relatively simple constitution in production of whiskers of titanium carbide useful as a reinforcing material of a composite material. CONSTITUTION:The whiskers of titanium carbide are produced by mixing 5-97wt.% of titanium oxide with 3-95wt.% of carbon to give a mixture, blending the mixture with 5-95wt.% of a fluoride and heating the blend in an inert atmosphere containing no nitrogen gas at 1,250-1,700 deg.C for >=0.5hour. |
