There is disclosed a calibration device for the inspection and precise setting of dental articulators which includes a stage member that is removably secured to the articulator lower frame and an scope gauge member that is removably secured to the upper frame of the articulator. A pair of position sensing indicators having sensing probes which are carried at the opposite sides of the stage member and are mechanically coupled by levers to contact points on the scope member which are located on the right and left axes of rotation of the articulator members. This permits the indicators to read, directly, relative vertical movements of the opposite sides of the articulator without being influenced by adjustments made at the opposite sides of the articulator. The inspection device includes ocular magnifiers including reticle and target indicium which cooperate to provide a vernier scale registering relative X-Y positions of the stage and gauge inspection members. The invention also includes magnetically secured dental cast and appliance mounting plates having removable magnets and metal plugs.
